ONAM

ONAM Festival greetings:

ONAM, the national festival of Kerala, celebrates irrespective of religion and caste and region.

It was believe that Kerala was under the rule of Asura King MAHABALI. During his ruling there was No Corruption, No unemployment, No poverty, No Gang Rape, No Solar issues. People were happy and that period is considered as GOLDEN ERA of Kerala. People were not thinking and discussing about Heaven. Then Devas and Sri. Devendra were very much annoyed as Mahabali become the ruler of all the three worlds. Devas approached God Vishnu and registered their protest. Then Vishnu told; “Mahabali is doing good things to his subjects and is eligible to promote as Sura ( Devas). You Devas should not be jealous about that. Being jealous would make you Asuras.”

But due to the compulsion and pressure from different corners (Scam?) Vishnu decided to act on their complaint. Vishnu disguised as Vamana(a Brahmin Boy) and approached Mahabali. Mahabali was very generous; he received Vamana and asked what he can do for him. Vamana tod “You need not give me anything great. It is enough if you can give me that extend of land covered by 3 steps of mine”

On hearing this and smelling the apprehending danger Sri Sukhracharya (Legal Advisor of Asura King) told Mahabali not to promise  the lad any thing. But Mahabali was firm on his word. He permits Vamana to measure and take 3 foot land.

Vamana measured by his one step entire World, Second step he measured Heaven; then asked “where I can keep my third step? “ Mahabali bowed down and shown his head. Vamana dumped Mahabali to Sutala, the heaven like underworld. Before doing so he granted permission to Mahabali to visit his subjects once in a year (Parole); people celebrate his visit as ONAM.

Beware of Vamanas.
